A full house makes a typical day at the Indian Coffee House in Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India. The coffee house is a popular meeting place for college students, poets, artists and intellectuals. Historically, it was known as Albert Hall, founded in April 1876, where a coffee place was started by the Coffee Board in 1942. Great personalities like Rabindranath Tagore and Subhas Chandra Bose were among its frequent visitors. It was shut down In 1958, but was soon re-opened in response to a petition to the Govt. by professors of Presidency College and Calcutta University to save the heritage place.
