A view of local temples from the Darjeeling Himalayan railway (toy train) The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway offers a glimpse of the daily life in the towns on its wavy route. The narrow guage toy train started service in 1881, connecting the hill station of Darjeeling to 'New Jalpaiguri' in the plains. On 5 Dec. 1999, DHR was inscribed on the World Heritage list by UNESCO.
