A TATA Sumo taxi on national highway 55 and the Darjeeling Himalayan railway (toy train) in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. The train and taxi are the two public modes of reaching Darjeeling. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway offers a glimpse of the daily life in the towns on its route. The narrow guage toy train started service in 1881, connecting the hill station of Darjeeling to 'New Jalpaiguri' in the plains. On 5 Dec. 1999, DHR was inscribed on the World Heritage list by UNESCO.
